About the Flag
"The flag consists of five strips that are positioned horizontally. The strips are in the flag with a 1: 1: 2: 1: 1 ratio and these strips are in blue-white-red-white-blue.
In the formation of the Costa Rican flag, the flag of Central America Confederation, of which Costa Rica was a member until 1838, was influential.
The red stripe was added to the flag created by inspiring from the horizontal stripes in blue-white-blue colors. The white stripes on the flag symbolize the interconnection of Central America and thus Costa Rica to the north and south of the continent.
Both blue stripes refer to the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The red symbolizes the warmth of the people of Costa Rica, the joy of life and also the blood that has been generously poured into the freedom of the country." (source: mappr)
